Getting the game
Iron Gate needs the 3.3.5a client (build 12340). If you do not have it, you can download one from chromiecraft.com/en/downloads. Pick any option on that page: direct download, torrent or a mirror. The site also has French, German, Italian and Spanish versions.
That client comes set up for a different server, so before you log in, open the file realmlist.wtf and change it to: set realmlist irongatewow.com
1. IMPORTANT: This server uses Playerbots (AI-controlled party/guild members). This is an actively developed feature and is NOT perfect - you may encounter bugs or odd bot behavior. We are continuously working on improvements. First, create an account using the Register page above.
2. Download and install the World of Warcraft 3.3.5a (Wrath of the Lich King) client. We recommend the ChromieCraft client - a clean 3.3.5a client with no server-specific changes. It is also the client our staff run and test on, so if you need help we are looking at the same setup you are: https://chromiecraft.com/en/downloads/
3. Open your World of Warcraft folder and find the file called realmlist.wtf. Most 3.3.5a clients have TWO copies of it - one in the main WoW folder, and one inside Data\enUS (or Data\enGB, Data\esES - whichever matches your game language). If you have both, change both. Open it with Notepad.
4. Delete everything in that file, put in the line below, and save. Two things catch nearly everyone out: in Notepad use File then Save, NOT Save As (Save As can quietly add .txt to the name, and the game will ignore it); and if Windows refuses to save because the file is read-only, right-click the file, choose Properties, untick Read-only, then save again.

Known Issues & Fixes
- Known issue: landing after a flight path (taxi) can cause a brief fall - this is a long-standing bug across all AzerothCore/TrinityCore servers, not unique to ours. It's on our list to fix.
- Fixed: Mount level requirements adjusted (20/40/60 instead of the old 40/40/60)
- Fixed: Journeyman Riding now available at level 40 instead of 60
- Fixed: Druid Bear Form and Aquatic Form can now be learned directly from a trainer - no quest chain required
- Fixed: Paladin Charger and Warlock Felsteed mounts now directly trainable at the correct level
Using Playerbots
- To recruit a bot into your party, whisper them the word "add" (e.g., /w BotName add)
- Whisper a bot "help" or "co" to see their full command list in-game
- Basic commands: follow, stay, attack, grind, co pull (have them pull for you)
- Bots can fill entire dungeon groups, so you can run content solo
Bot Talent / Spec Commands
Whisper these to any bot in your party or raid to control their talent build (e.g. /w BotName talents spec list):
talents - shows the bot's current talent spec
talents spec list - lists every premade spec available for that bot's class (e.g. Fire, Frost, Arcane for a mage), numbered
talents spec <name> - switch the bot to one of the specs from that list, e.g. talents spec Fire
talents autopick - let the bot automatically pick a solid build for its current level and class
talents switch 1 / talents switch 2 - swap between dual-spec slot 1 and slot 2 (the bot needs dual spec unlocked first)
talents apply <link> - apply a raw in-game talent link (advanced/optional)
talents help - shows this same command list in-game
Addons
We have put together a single pack with the addons our staff run. Install it and you have the same setup we do, which means when you ask for help we are looking at what you are looking at.
Download the Addon Pack (65.53 MB)
To install: close World of Warcraft completely, open the zip, and copy the AddOns folder into your WoW Interface folder. If it asks about replacing files, say yes - your own addons are not removed. Then start the game, click AddOns at the character select screen, and make sure everything is ticked. Full instructions are in the README inside the zip.
One thing to watch. The pack contains two quest-helper addons, Questie and QuestHelper. They do the same job and will fight each other if both are switched on - you get duplicate map icons and two arrows pointing different ways. At the character select screen, click AddOns and tick one of them, not both. We recommend Questie.
The pack contains addons written by other people, included as published. Credit to their authors, among them:
You do not need to download those separately. They are already in the pack.
Crashing in busy places? Apply the 4GB patch
The 3.3.5a game is a 32-bit program from 2010, and it was built with a setting that says it will never need more than 2GB of memory. On this server, with a lot of players and bots around you, it does need more - and when it runs out, the game closes. Usually in the same crowded spots every time.
Windows is perfectly happy to give it up to 4GB. It just has to be told the program can cope with it. This small script turns that one setting on. It is the same change our own client has had since September, and it is why we stopped crashing.
Download the 4GB Patch (3.1 KB)
How to use it: close World of Warcraft completely. Open the zip and put Apply-4GB-Patch.ps1 into your WoW folder - the one with Wow.exe in it. Right-click it and choose Run with PowerShell. It shows you what it is about to do and waits for you to type YES.
What it actually does: it changes one setting inside your own copy of Wow.exe, on your own computer. It downloads nothing and sends nothing anywhere. The file does not even change size. Your original is backed up first as Wow.exe.bak, and if anything goes wrong the script puts your original back by itself.
If Windows will not let you right-click and run it, open PowerShell and paste the line below, with your own WoW folder in place of the example:
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "C:\Games\WoW\Apply-4GB-Patch.ps1"
If you are already patched, the script will say so and change nothing. It is safe to run twice.
Camera twisting when you click? Apply the camera fix
Hold right-click to turn and the camera suddenly snaps to look straight up or straight down, and your mouse pointer jumps back to the middle of the screen. It happens in the middle of a fight as often as anywhere else. This is a bug in the 3.3.5a game itself - it is on every big private-server forum, it is not your mouse and it is not your computer, and there is no in-game setting that turns it off.
There is a known fix for it. It changes four small things inside the game program so the camera stops doing it. We have been running it here and it has held through a full day of play with no twisting at all.
Download the Camera Fix (2.5 KB)
How to use it: close World of Warcraft completely. Open the zip and put Apply-Camera-Fix.ps1 into your WoW folder - the one with Wow.exe in it. Right-click it and choose Run with PowerShell. It will tell you which client it found and what it did.
What it actually does: it changes four small places inside your own copy of Wow.exe, on your own computer. It downloads nothing and sends nothing anywhere. Before it writes a single byte it checks that every one of those places matches an unmodified 3.3.5a client exactly, and if anything is even slightly different it stops and changes nothing. Your original is backed up first as Wow.exe.bak-camera- plus the date, it reads the file back afterwards to prove the change took, and if that check fails it puts your original back by itself.
If Windows will not let you right-click and run it, open PowerShell and paste the line below, with your own WoW folder in place of the example:
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "C:\Games\WoW\Apply-Camera-Fix.ps1"
If you are already patched, the script will say so and change nothing. It is safe to run twice. If you ever want your original game back, run it again with -Undo on the end.
This fix and the 4GB patch above are separate things and do not interfere with each other. Most people will want both.
